Career Academy


The NCC Career Academy is a post-secondary certificate program that provides career training in Culinary Arts and Hospitality. Holding true to our mission, the NCC Career Academy offers job readiness, job training and retention to people with disabilities in an effort to assist them with gaining and maintaining employment. At the Academy, participants receive the professional skills and knowledge needed to be prepared for working and participating fully in their communities through internships and other program activities. This unique program is also open to residents without disabilities, providing them with access to the training and resources needed to secure employment.


The focus and goal of the Career Academy is to provide meaningful employment opportunities and greater independence to our students through a variety of services and trainings that are customized to match each person’s abilities, strengths and interests. These key focus areas include:

WORK READINESS prepares people for entrance or re-entrance into the workforce. This focus includes employment readiness, career exploration and on-site training in various employment fields. Workshop sessions will include job readiness, employer expectations, interviewing skills, money management and more.

JOB PLACEMENT provides the opportunity for people to spend time in various career and employment training programs. People will volunteer within their community in the field that fits their interest and need.

CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM provides instruction using the industry recognized National Restaurant Association Educational Foundations (NRAEF) ProStart Curriculum, which allows students to earn the ServSafe Foodhandlers, ServSafe Alcohol, and ProStart National Certificate of Achievement. This is a combination of classroom and hands-on training curriculum that gives students the real-world knowledge and skills needed for a long-term career in this industry. Upon completion of this 10-month program, people will be prepared for entry level positions in restaurants, banquet halls, schools, hotels and more.

HOSPITALITY PROGRAM provides instruction using the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute’s Skill, Tasks and Results Training Program (START). START is a 180 classroom-hour curriculum that gives students the real-world knowledge and skills needed for a career in the hospitality industry. At our facility, training is offered in twelve key areas of the industry. After completing a 10-week training program, participants will complete an internship to refine their employment skills. Upon successful completion of this program, participants will be prepared to enter competitive employment.
