History was made on May 27, 2015 at the NCC Career Academy where the first ever mock interview session was held. The session began with introduction from the professionals in the hotel industry, namely Ms. Kim Allen-Mills (Willard Intercontinental), Ms. Michelle Asselin (Park Hyatt), Mr. Chuck Atkins (Washington Hilton), Ms. Ashely Winter (Washington Hilton), Ms. Patricia Buckley (Washington Hilton) and the nine students from NCC Career Academy. Doreen McGarrah, Vice President of Educational & Employment Services at NCC was also in attendance.
The students were interviewed for the following positions:
- Front Desk Representative
- Maintenance Employee
- Housekeeper (Guestroom Attendant)
- Culinary/ Restaurant Server
As the sessions progressed students were given valuable tips on how to interview and appropriate questions to ask during an interview. The immediate feedback that the students received allowed them to have a greater understanding about their strengths and weaknesses, and has allowed them to be better prepared for potential jobs. Patricia Browne, Chief Operating Officer at the National Children’s Center imparted words of wisdom and congratulated the students on their participation.
It was an exciting day for both students and employers. There are plans to incorporate mock interviews into each cohort moving forward.
