In an effort to continuously expose our students to opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial skills, learn various marketing techniques, understand the importance of customer service but most of all how to be self-sufficient; the culinary students were enrolled in an “Introduction to Event Planning” course hosted by Montgomery College at Takoma Park/Silver Spring.
During the course with Montgomery College’s Workforce Development & Continued Education Hospitality Program, students learned how to organize a great party. In three 2-hour class sessions, students were able to identify the process of party production, identify elements common to all gatherings, and explore the specific thematic elements of some parties that have special appeal and attraction to youth.
As a final class activity students were placed into two groups in which they had to come up with a theme for a party as well as a budget and present the ideas to the class. Each student that participated received a “How to Organize A Great Party” certificate.
We are proud of our students, as they continue to enhance their skills in all areas of hospitality.
