NCC’s Community Day Services (CDS) program is always working to ensure that people with multiple and or complex intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve greater independence, personal choice, self-awareness, and wellness opportunities through the full access and support offered within their communities. In an effort to continue to increase these opportunities for people supported the NCC CDS Program dedicated an entire day to travel training in partnership with the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA).
On September 16, 2015, WMATA dedicated an entire bus to do a full day of interactive travel training for people supported and their support staff. Some of the topics covered were public transportation and safety, typical rules and expectations, as well as a mini stop at the MLK Memorial and lunch as Haines Point before returning to NCC. WMATA was able to provide a successful day of travel training to about 60 people and their support staff. NCC is proud to be able to partner with WMATA in an effort to continue to offer the highest quality of services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in order for them to be the most successful in achieving full community inclusion!
